What’s Your Cause?

Hina Shavdia and Jack Woolnoth

While the Global Day of Giving Rally happens but once a year, AXIS employees are giving their time and resources year-round to support the causes they care about. In this series, we learn about causes close to the hearts of our employees.

We sat down with Hina Shavdia, Head of Change International and Jack Woolnoth, Business Analyst, to learn more about the Little Princess Trust and Mind organizations.

The Little Princess Trust

The Little Princess Trust was established in 2006. The charity provides free, real-hair wigs for youth suffering from cancer and for young people experiencing the devastating effects of hair loss, helping to restore their confidence and identities. The organization also funds life-saving research into childhood cancers.

Hina and her daughter have cut their hair and donated over 77cm of hair together to the Little Princess Trust, in honor of Hina's husband, Jay, being 5 years clear from cancer this past January. Hina and Mya set up a Just Giving page and have raised over £2,000 together.

“It's about family. It's about being together. It's about looking after each other. It's about, you know, doing what we can for each other. And I guess for me, that's how it all comes together," said Hina in the video interview below.

Mind

Founded in 1946, Mind is a mental health charity based in England and Wales that provides advice and support to those experiencing mental health hardships. In 2018-2019, 118,000 queries were answered by Mind's help lines. Mind also campaigns to raise awareness and promote understanding around mental health issues to advocate that all those who seek help with their mental health have access to excellent care and services.

Jack has fundraised over £1,000 for Mind by setting up a Just Giving Page. He set incentives to wax his legs (not to be missed video) when he reached £500, and to shave his head of hair when he reached his target of £1000. “Mental health is something that is close to my heart on a number of levels. Both myself, close friends and family have been on journeys for a range of issues, even before COVID-19 rocked up, and the support we have received from each other and services have been a huge help," wrote Jack on his Just Giving Page.
